Update: The Physician Pathway Act has been signed into law!
In exchange for only three years of medical practice serving state residents with the greatest need, immigrant professionals can bypass previous requirements that undermined their credentials in order to advance their careers and open doors to leadership sooner.
In addition to this, the Physician Pathway Act introduces a mentorship program designed to integrate these professionals seamlessly into the medical field and foster the diverse talent that immigrant professionals bring to this Commonwealth!
We are grateful to our bill sponsors, Senator Jason Lewis and Representatives Jack Lewis and Mindy Domb for believing in our vision for a brighter future.

What is the Physician Pathway Act?
The Physician Pathway Act addresses acute physician shortages in rural and underserved communities by mobilizing the expertise of experienced internationally-trained physicians (ITPs). This legislation creates a streamlined pathway to full licensure for qualified ITPs in exchange for at least three years of medical practice in a healthcare facility serving state residents with the greatest need, as recommended by the Massachusetts Special Commission on Foreign-Trained Medical Professionals in its 2022 report.
Additional Resources
The Physician Pathway Act requires physicians to have completed steps one and two of the USMLE exams in order to be eligible for licensure in Massachusetts.
