APHSIN is a leadership network under the African Bridge Network that empowers and supports African and other foreign-born professionals to advance their careers in the human services industry. The core membership of the network are African and foreign-born professionals already in leadership positions within the human service industry who serve as models and advocates.
How we Define African or Foreign-born Professional Leaders:
Any African or foreign-born professional in a leadership position in the human services industry in any of these roles: Non-Direct Care Staff with supervisory roles; Program and House Managers; Case Managers; Clinicians; Administrators or other senior management positions and Consultants and Board Members.

Since it’s initiation in 2019, APHSIN has been influential advocating for leadership advancement for African and foreign-born professional in the human services industry.
Untapped Talent Study
Network members advised the Simmons University study on the challenges and opportunities for career and leadership development of foreign-born and minority professionals in the Human Services industry. This study was commissioned by ABN and four human services agencies in Massachusetts.
The Foreign-Born Leader Scholarship
Through the advocacy of APHSIN, a Foreign-Born Leader Scholarship of $3,000 has been instituted by the Providers’ Council for a foreign-born professional enrolled in a master’s or doctoral degree program. It pointed out the potential impact of APHSIN in advocating for minority professionals in the Human Services industry.
Webinars on Education and Career Advancement Resources and Opportunities
APHSIN partners with different organizations to host webinars on career advancement resources and opportunities for foreign-born professionals in the human services industry.
