Fellow’s Profile:
Viergine Saintil is from Haiti and has lived in the U.S. for seventeen years, and now she is jumpstarting her career here with assistance from ABN. She puts it simply, “My aspiration was to work. I have always had a passion for helping people”. Her inspiration for this sentiment came from when her second child was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. She wanted to bring them support in any way she could and found the inspiration to do that once she came into contact with ABN.
Before coming to the U.S., Viergine had ten years and a wide range of professional experience in Haiti. She spent three years as an administrative assistant, two years as a marketing agent and cashier, then three years as a customer service supervisor in a market. She is hardworking and able to adapt to a diverse set of work environments. Along with all these jobs, she received an education. Viergine has a bachelor’s degree in Management and was in Assistant Administration for the Parliament of Haiti.
Viergine has big plans for her future. Her goal is to become a healthcare administrator and she is working hard to achieve this. She is planning on going back to a four-year school and taking graduate courses in healthcare. She will also be revisiting her BA in Management and plans to get an associate’s degree in the health science field. She is ready to commit the time and effort to achieve these goals.
She is working with ABN in hopes that they can help move her in the right direction. It is a big risk to move to a country with no prior experience, but she is bravely doing so. Viergine says, “My biggest challenge is to leave some of my relatives in Haiti after spending all of my childhood in the country”. Although she has faced many challenges, she has persevered and has been offered a full-time position as an EVS Supervisor at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Viergine reflects on the help received from ABN, “I would like to say thank you to them. I remain grateful to find the opportunities like this one. It makes me feel that I’m not alone on the journey of accomplishing my career goals”.
We envision a day when the skills of immigrant professionals are highly valued and they can use their past experiences to build their careers, support their families, and make meaningful contributions to our society.
