Teddy Keser Mombrun is an internationally-trained general practitioner from Haiti and moved to the United States three years ago.
Teddy is a certified medical doctor with a degree from Université Notre Dame D’Haiti. He worked in Haiti as a general practitioner as well as a cartoonist for the daily newspaper. Although he completed his degree in Haiti, he did not initially work in the medical field upon his move to the United States. Teddy faced initial challenges in the professional world upon his move, “It’s a completely different environment and I was also dealing with a language barrier when I first moved here. It’s a challenge, but once you’re here you have to face it and find a way to work through.”
He worked as a freelance cartoonist and graphic designer before moving to Boston. Upon his move to Boston, he began to work as a volunteer graphic designer for an organization that helped immigrants.
Teddy participated in the Immigrant Professionals Fellowship to re-enter the medical field and to find a job to help support his family. He was placed within the Pathology Department at Mass General Hospital, “It was a very excellent experience. I really enjoyed the time I spent with my new coworkers and my employers. I’ve been working as a physician for more than fifteen years and I learned many new things and was able to share my experience with my coworkers.”
Teddy encourages others to participate in the fellowship as a way to gain experience, build up your resume, and grow your professional network. “The African Bridge Network really is a bridge that can help you get to where you want to go, reach the dream, and work in the field you were trained in.” He thanks ABN, the founders, and supporters for granting him this opportunity.
