Priscilla is a Medical Doctor with over seven years of experience delivering frontline clinical care in hospital settings across Zimbabwe and South Africa, managing diverse patient populations and complex medical cases. In her prior roles at Brits District Hospital and Rahima Moosa Mother & Child Hospital, she provided comprehensive primary care, coordinated multidisciplinary treatment plans, and operated within high-volume healthcare environments.
When she and her husband relocated to the US, she was eager to re-establish her career and worked hard to get her work authorization. Like many internationally trained physicians, Priscilla faced regulatory and credentialing barriers upon relocating to the US.
Despite her high levels of experience, she still faced barriers in re-establishing herself, saying,
“I couldn’t go into work as a medical doctor, so I had to look at other jobs where I could get transferable skills.”
While researching organizations that could help her in her career development, Priscilla came across ABN. She saw the ABN programs as an opportunity to get back on track to rejoin the medical field. She worked closely with an ABN career advisor who helped to mentor her and find opportunities where her knowledge would be valuable.
Priscilla says that having a mentor in her industry was extremely helpful,
“This was one of the best things that happened to me.”
Priscilla is now a part of the 2025 Cohort of the Immigrant Professionals Fellowship, where she received soft skills training, technical training, and continuous professional support. She will be working in the Pathology department at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where she says she is looking forward to contributing to patient care.
Priscilla is also working towards relicensure. She has completed the USMLE and is in the process of applying for residency programs, hoping to soon be able to apply her talent to the US healthcare industry.
Physicians like Priscilla bring years of prior clinical experience. ABN’s Immigrant Professionals Fellowship hopes to give these individuals a chance to get their foot back in the door and make meaningful contributions to our society and healthcare systems.
We envision a day when the skills of immigrant professionals are highly valued and they can use their past experiences to build their careers, support their families, and make meaningful contributions to our society.
