Jung aha Shin is a master’s graduate who has built her career in the healthcare and science fields. Originally from Korea, she moved to Boston, MA 12 years ago when her husband relocated for work. Since arriving in the United States, Jung has developed her career in Healthcare Administration, but admits that it has been a challenge getting ahead in the field. Without much work experience in the US, nor a professional network that she can rely on, she has encountered many obstacles when applying for jobs.
Looking to brush up on her skills and learn more about jobs in the healthcare sector, Jung applied and was accepted for the Boston Immigrant Professionals’ Fellowship in May 2022. She was placed at Beth Israel Hospital where she served in the Radiology and Grant Administration Departments. “Overall [the fellowship] was more than I expected,” Jung describes. “Every training and interaction was helpful for facing a new role in the workplace.”
When asked how the fellowship will help Jung achieve her career goals, she explains that it has “paved the way” for her to build up her knowledge and skill set and connect with other professionals in the healthcare field. “This fellowship helped me not only earn knowledge and skills, but also build up my professional network and gain the confidence [needed] to resume my career.”
Jung concludes: “I appreciate all the opportunities ABN offers and all the possibilities that make it possible for my dream to come true in the U.S.”
We envision a day when the skills of immigrant professionals are highly valued and they can use their past experiences to build their careers, support their families, and make meaningful contributions to our society.
