Rachel has a diverse set of skills and professional experiences that she is eager to apply to her career in the US. Originally from Uganda, Rachel has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management. She dedicated her entire career in Uganda to working for the Jane Goodall Institute, starting in an administrative position and progressing her way to project planning. Rachel has assisted in building and managing many programs, her most recent being Roots & Shoots, a youth environmental program.

Rachel moved to the US in 2018, but struggled to reenter her career, saying,

“It was really difficult for me to get back into the career I was doing back home.”

Whenever she applied for roles in her field, she would hear back that she didn’t have the qualifications. Due to the high demand in the healthcare field, Rachel decided to try a different pathway, training as a Certified Nursing Assistant and starting nursing school.

This is when Rachel discovered ABN. She originally applied to be a part of the Healthcare Fellowship, but was not selected. Instead of giving up, the ABN staff suggested she apply for the Clean Energy Fellowship with Transform Power Systems. Luckily enough, this program offered a project management track – perfect for Rachel.

Rachel was selected to be a part of the Fall 2025 Cohort of the Fellowship, where she received training and a glimpse into what a career in the clean energy field would look like. She says,

“It was a very good experience, because it did not only focus on project planning. It exposed us to technical parts of clean energy careers.”

She got to hear from speakers on different clean energy projects, how to find a job in the industry, and she learned the soft skills that are expected in the US workplace.

On top of these experiences, Rachel was given a career coach to meet with weekly to assist in updating her resume and LinkedIn and help with her job search. Rachel is currently looking for a permanent role in the project management space, focusing on the clean energy industry. Her aspirations don’t stop there – she also hopes to start her Master’s in Business Administration and earn more project management certifications.

She deeply thanks ABN and TPS for the opportunity to participate in the Fellowship,

“I am very grateful for this opportunity and for the support.”
