Originally from Uganda, Frederick has a diverse background spanning public & business administration, accounting, project management, and information & communication technology. After working as a PR officer for seven years and successfully completing his master’s degree, he transitioned into accounting and student affairs. This role led him to represent senior-level staff on the Makerere University Business School governing council, the largest business school in Uganda. In this position, Frederick played a pivotal role in designing and approving policies to enhance university operations. He took pride in the impact he was making.

Frederick moved to the US in 2022 and embarked on a career in biomedical manufacturing. His work in assembling syringes contributed to critical projects that benefited hospitals worldwide, reinforcing his sense of purpose.

Seeking to rebuild his professional career in the US, Frederick applied for the ABN Fellowship. Recognizing the opportunity, he shared the program with his friend, Alex. Rather than viewing the application process as a competition, they supported each other, and both secured placements at Boston Medical Center. Through professional training with Emmanuel College and an internship at Boston Medical Center, Frederick saw this as a pivotal moment to leverage his skills in a meaningful professional setting.

“ABN gave me a new sigh of relief and the opportunity to work, get training, and work in my field,” Frederick stated with gratitude.

Frederick was frustrated by past experiences where his talents felt overlooked. Though he could bring his knowledge to the table, he felt that his skill level exceeded the job. At ABN, Frederick was able to work alongside other fellows who shared similar frustrations. The ABN community helped Frederick grow both personally and professionally.

“They tell you to go to college and gain experience, but there’s no way of knowing how to do that without professional support. For that, I am glad ABN showed me which steps to take in order to grow,” Frederick reflected.

During his fellowship, Frederick expanded his professional network through BMC, which helped him advance his career. He became a member of The National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA), an affiliation that broadens his career prospects in research administration. This milestone has been instrumental in his professional journey, and he credits ABN for opening these doors

Frederick proudly carries the ABN flag and is committed to paying it forward. He aims to mentor and support other skilled immigrants navigating similar career transitions, ensuring that more professionals in his community can achieve their aspirations.
